For the 30th anniversary of the original game's release, DKC Mirrored gets a full complete release. Experience the entire game again ... but with a twist! All levels and tilemaps, sprite positions etc. have been flipped horizontally. You still move from left to right, but this time around from the exit to the entrance.

- The hack was originally done by Raccoon Sam (vervalkon) in 2017 in a somewhat incomplete state, but RainbowSprinklez picked it up again in 2024 and through the power of teamwork ironed out the kinks and was able to fix most of the bugs.:

At first, it’s just weird seeing everything backward, but the more you play, the more you realize how much it changes things. All those jumps, enemy placements, and barrel puzzles you thought you had memorized? Forget it. You have to rethink your approach because nothing feels quite the same anymore. It’s familiar but also brand new, which is a cool feeling if you’ve played the original a bunch of times.
Some parts feel easier, while others feel way harder, just because your instincts are working against you. There were a few moments where I was like, “Wait, how did I miss that jump?” But that’s part of the fun—it’s challenging without being unfair.
Overall, this hack is a great way to rediscover Donkey Kong Country. It’s not a huge overhaul, but the mirror effect adds just enough of a twist to keep things fresh and exciting. If you’re a fan of the original game, it’s definitely worth checking out!
