Description written by Gamma V -----------------------------------------------------
''Sonic Legacy is a fairly simple hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, with every level being edited to some degree, with scripted event-heavy levels receiving the fewest edits due to lack of ASM skills and overall inexperience with Sonic hacking''.
FEATURES:
-
Custom music.
-
Per-Act song changes.
-
Changes to 6 of the 7 Special Stages (The editor for these is very limited, so they might be a bit messy.)
-
New colours.
-
New level layouts.
-
Uses Clownacy's Sonic 2 cloned V2 sound driver.
-
Optimised audio for PAL 50Hz.
-
Works 100% on real hardware via an EverDrive.
Despite being humble and talking her edits down, Gamma V has made an outstanding Sonic 2 hack for the community that offers the player an alternative take on the famous Sonic 2 game by Sega. ZONES:
-
Verdant Coast Zone: A relaxing tropical bayside resort, Sonic and Tails rush through this area at sunset.
-
Midnight Metro Zone: A huge industrial city area with many different ways to go.
-
Marsh Palace Zone: A large jungle area accompanied by a large lake of water.
-
Spirit Casino Zone: Night life has never been so exciting! Sonic and Tails enter into a casino area.
-
Lava Canyon Zone: This canyon area is located high in the mountains above the clouds and is filled with many lava pits and Sonic stopping obstacles.
-
Sapphire Shaft Zone: Is an abandoned mine located in a dark cavern.
-
Refinery Rush Zone: Is a giant Oil rig full of many nasty badniks. Beautiful colours fill the sky as the sun sets.
-
Metal Fortress Zone: Sonic and Tails have made it to Eggman's capital base and are one step away from catching up with Eggman. It's a huge fortress filled with badniks and traps.
-
Sky Chase Zone: Sonic and Tails catch a breeze high up in the clouds as they catch the wing of Eggman's ship.
-
Egg Halberd Zone: Eggman's battle ship, here Sonic and Tails find their way across and into Eggman's secret station.
-
Neo Death Egg Zone: Same as Death Egg Zone but you get rings wow!
NOTES:
-
Inside the ZIP file you'll find 3 IPS patches, there is a v1, v2 and a v3 (final), they're in Lunar IPS format and simply need to be patched to the Sonic 2 REV A ROM.
-
v3 is the final version of the game but two earlier builds are added in the ZIP file for completionist reasons.
-
v1 and v2 crash sporadically through out the game due to a sound driver bug, this bug was later fixed in the final v3, so for a smooth and perfect gameplay, best to play v3.
-
The game has a PSG square wave bug where sometimes a square will sound out of tune for a second or two, it is only a problem when playing the game on an original Sega Mega Drive/Genesis model 1 FM-YM2612. All other emulators and consoles don't have this bug.
-
The Special Stages have different ring patterns in them and they get hard very quickly!
-
Music and especially the drums are very clear sounding. The drums are hard and loud.
-
Back in the day over at SSRG, many armchair critics raced to insert their negative opinions like facts, although a select few praised it.
-
Lastly the video down below is a video of an earlier build of the game, not the final. So some levels will have different colours and different music tracks. Very hard to find a video of someone playing the final version.
