Description

Pixilart - sega master system sonic by ThatCanadianLadSonic The Hedgehog - Colour Hack is a very simple Sonic 1 SMS hack made by Weeppiko. This patch aims to improve the colour palette for all the stages and screens of the game without changing anything else. Some stages have more changes than others, while the Special Stages remain almost unchanged.

Inside the ZIP file you'll find two IPS patches, one is a standard PSG Colour patch and the other is an FM Colour patch (which already has ValleyBell's FM patch merged with it). With each patch inside the ZIP, all you have to do is patch them to the original Sonic The Hedgehog (USA/Europe) ROM file, the rest is already done for you including fixed checksums so the patches will work with authentic Master System bios.

The idea to share this here was to tidy it up a little by already adding the FM patch merged with the Colour hack and fixing the checksums before the downloader downloads the patches as it's a common mistake many skilled ROM hackers and editors make is that they make their wonderful ROM hack changes but unknowingly leave the new hack with a bad checksum which YOU as the downloader have to fix yourself and with some game files it can prove to be a dick as some games are really fussy and not everyone knows how to fix it.

Lastly, this patch has received some negative feedback over at RomHacking(.)net with some viewing it as nothing more than a purple/blue filter upon the colour palette. This may be true and even if it's not a general improvement but merely a curiosity, the colours still look gorgeous in their own right and I believe it's worth a look.

ROM hack patch belongs to Weeppiko.

Happy Gaming!

I have to be honest, this color hack indeed looks like a simple blue/purple filter over the original game. But the way you see it depends on which emulator you are using really (Kega Fusion has a bit of CRT TV quality when playing Master System games, for example).
